Hi guys.
Today was the 2nd day both of my 11 week old chickens were in the coop/run with my 3 18 week old pullets. Tonight when I went to check on the 2 little ones I saw a big gash on one of their heads. What is your suggestion for wound care? Do I need to go to the vet? I pulled her out and put her in her brooder, can her little flock member be with her or should she be alone because of the blood? I feel just awful for the poor thing. Thanks for the help!

You can treat the wound yourself with Vetericyn or Neosporin. Make sure you do NOT use the Neosporin with pain relief in it.

You can try bringing her flock mate in with her as long as you can closely monitor them. It is possible she could peck at the injured spot and make it worse. Is it possible to keep them in the brooder together, but somehow separate them? Let them see each other, but not touch each other.
