My 11-week-old SLW pullet decided that it would be a good morning to try out crowing. I assume this means she is probably a rooster, but I guess I'm still holding on to the hope that she's just a dominant female who decided to test her voice box. It was not a terribly impressive crow, but it WAS a crow.

Still, I've been reading up on crowing hens so it sounds like this can happen? Anyway, if she's a rooster then she'll have to be dinner since my town prohibits roos. That would be sad since s/he's so beautiful!

What do you think: male or female? I appreciate your evaluations since this is my first year with chickens.

I am fairly new to chickens, but I am positive that you have a rooster there. My SLW hen is the same age and her comb and wattles are barely developed. Also, with the SLW roos they tend to have an abundance of white on the wings where the hens have more lacing. He is a good-looking bird!

Aw jeez, thanks everybody, I guess I need to come to terms with the fact that I can't keep him.

If anyone wants him for their flock, please let me know! I'd even be willing to ship him to a good home.
