Trying to convince my husband of that! People were saying that store bought eggs are often "fertile".

That too, although not all.

There is not a down side to fertile eggs.

The eggs are still edible
The eggs will not develop unless they are left out in severe heat
The eggs taste the same

My eggs are almost always fertile

Well having a rooster serves as either a pet, flock leader, or to continue your flock through having fertile eggs for hatching.

Predation and diseases happens to the best of us, as much as we try to protect them.

So for me it serves that purpose.
