11 wk old pullets eating the oyster shell

I was under the impression that I could switch my mixed age flock to flock raiser and put out oyster shell and the younger ones would not touch it. They actually dove right into it. I took it out of the run, and put it outside where my layers free range. Will it hurt my younger girls??

Sounds as if they are looking for grit to help in the digestion of their food.

I don't think so, they are in a LARGE run on dirt with lots of grit.
