found a local place to buy fertilized eggs ... put them under my silkie, who has been brrody for 3/4 of her life, and it looks like her butt just isn't big enough to completely cover them all

i tried to reshape her nest to make it more "bowl shaped" but here and there you can see an egg protruding out from under her just a little

tips?

also ... this is the first time i have found fertilized eggs for her to hatch

Exactly. She will be moving them around all the time. Some will start to develop, get pushed out, and die. Then they will get moved back under her. others will get pushed out, then they die. You usually don't get many to hatch if she cannot cover them all.

You could put the excess in an incubator and try to give ther the ones that hatch, but if she cannot cover them for the first week or two, you have a pretty good chance of some of them not lasting through a cold night.

I know every egg becomes precious when it goes under a broody or in an incubator, but you will be better off just giving her what she can cover.

Good luck!!!
