I have two lavender chicks right now and they are the sweetest things! I swear instead of cheeping they sing like little song birds when they are happy! Once I figure out if I have boys or girls I'm going to want some eggs to hatch out. What age can you tell with these guys in your experience?

I can usually tell at about a month old, of course some sooner, and some longer

Any tips for someone inexperienced? I *think* I have two girls but I have no clue really why I think that lol

First clue is the comb. Males, :: usually larger and redder Females usually have smaller combs, and they usually aren't red, more pink to even whitish looking, but Like anything else It can change as they get older.

When they're babies, typically you can feather-sex. Though it's harder for bantams, and breeds like cochins and sillkies.

You can feather sex a bantam ameraucana? I'm sort of familiar with the technique. If it's possible I'll take a look. My chicks are about 4 1/2 weeks. Is that too old?

Yeah, that's a bit too old. Really, you need to try and sex them right when their feathers start growing, since bantams are normally a few days old before that happens.
With standards, you sex them at about a day-old.

Bantams, and cochins are harder to feather-sex, but I've had some luck with it.
