Hi everyone, We bought a house in October that came with 12 chickens, they were part of the deal. The previous owner had just built the coop in the summer so he didn't have them very long before he sold the house and it was very apparant how little knowledge he had of chicken keeping. Anyway, we moved in and suddenly I had 12 chickens to care for with zero knowledge. I've been doing my best and learning what I can online however I don't have the time to care for them. We own our own business and I'm spending more time caring for the chickens than being at our shop and I just can't continue like this, plus the fact I don't have the experience to properly care for them. I'm hoping to find someone who would like to add to their flock or has the room for some/all. I have 8 Rhode Island Reds, 4 Barred Rocks - all hens, and excellent layers. I'm not sure how old they are, if I had to guess I'd say no more than a year old but like I said before I don't know anything about chickens! They have grown on me and I'm upset about having to do this but I just can't do it anymore and they deserve a more experienced and knowledgable caretaker. I've talked to some people at feed stores and emailed a couple local farms but I don't know what else to do. I feel like it was very irresponsible of the previous owner to get these chickens and then pawn them off on whoever bought his house without a care. I haven't even finished unpacking yet because I've had to work on the coop/run to fix his mistakes and make it right because he had no clue. They weren't even roosting properly when we moved in, they were sleeping on top of eachother on one little perch in the run. I have since trained them to roost in the coop. I'm in Brighton, MI, if anyone is interested or can help me in anyway I will forever appreciate it. Thanks! Gail. I posted some pics below:
