Its now been 1 year since my girls started laying. Valentina by far laid the most & Latrice did an impressive leap from 70 eggs in 6 months to 186 for the year. ChiChi had a hard molt & has not laid an egg in 79 days. I will keep track for year 2, so I can see how production changes (It will decrease). We had a total of 686 eggs in 365 days, we only had to buy eggs twice this past year. This year we will add 2 new layers, so we can off set the decrease egg production for year 2 & extend the overall egg supply for another year.

Its been a fun year tracking the production of the girl. Latrice was broody twice & ChiChi just once. Valentina total trooper & has not gone broody. Not sure when ChiChi will start laying again, if any of you know how long this break will take, would appreciate insight.

:love their names!

One of my girls stopped in October for molt and has just started back laying last week. Three others took Oct-Dec off. Out of curiosity have you been tracking egg weight? I was looking at hatching from one of my hens this spring and she went from large/ extra large to jumbos.

No I have not been tracking the weight, just quantity. Hopefully ChiChi will start laying soon.

That’s so funny. My husbands last batch of chickens before me were named after drag queens. We almost did it this time but decided on a new tradition of alliterations.

Generation one is all L names.
Loretta
Lou Anne
Luci
Lorpa
Leri( it was Larry when we thought she was a he)

Next generation I think is going to be all T names

Sorry this has nothing to do with your original post haha

Did you change their feed during the molt?

Also what breeds are they?

I keep giving their layer feed, plus I also give them 1 can of wet cat food every week with mealworms. I also give them black sunflower seeds with corn & sorghum as treat. Should I feed them something else?
