Those darn pullets, they go red then pale with activity and rest.
My first batch drove me nuts with that!

It's all a learning experience, lol, but they are quite the characters and I enjoy them

So when should I start giving them laying feed?

Not until they are all laying......or never.
Many of us don't ever feed layer feed, preferring a higher protein(18-20%) 'all flock' type feed.
Then providing oyster shells for calcium in a separate feeder.

They are on all flock mixed with starter crumbles now
