Shipping west of the mississippi will be $5 extra.

These are extra large to jumbo in size. The photo below are eggs from a prior order. Today's are very similar.

I will pack them very well and will guarantee that you get at least 12 unbroken eggs upon arrival - no matter what the post office does to them.

I can take PayPal, money order or credit/debit cards for payment. First one to post SOLD gets them. I can ship them as early as today.

Thanks for looking,

Steve

I can testify to his GREAT packing abilities! All my eggs arrived intact.

They are due to hatch 8/13. Any tips McSpin, on candleing these beauties? I'm having a hard time figuring out what's going on inside.

Yes, candling is difficult on eggs this dark. What I do is wait until day 10. At that point you can see the dark mass, which is the chick, or the egg will have a somewhat translucent look to it. With a good light you can see veins on some of them, and you can see an egg gone bad that has a large ring around it.

I use one of the new high intensity LED flashlights, and just cup the flashlight in one hand with the egg sitting on top (in a very dark room). This works better for me than any other method I've used on these dark eggs and I've tried about 15-20 different methods.

Good luck,

Hi Steve,

Have we traded emails before? I hope you'll forgive me if we have.

Those are VERY dark looking Welsummer eggs. I would be very interested to know what their lineage is as well.

If you don't wish to post it here, would you send me a personal email with that info? I'll reply with the history/lineage on my lines. I think you will find them quite interesting as well.

TIA and God Bless,

The furthest back I can trace the line is Calicowoods.

I do believe I may have gotten a bit lucky. I set up groups of these with 3 friends and I kept one group. One particular roo produced pullets that all layed darker eggs than the others, so I think I just got lucky that my group is producing these darker eggs.

My older hen lays that color and she was second gen from Calicowood stock. Beautiful birds tho!

I would love to know where Harry Shaw got his Welsummers from. I had his email a year before he passed away and could not remember if he got them from a breeder from MA or got them from Lowell Barber himself. Dang, I wished I kept his emails.

Other than that, McSpin, got some lovely eggs! Now dont tempt me because I am in the line of Tailfeathers eggs and maybe I get some of yours. It would be difficult for me to keep chicks separate in lineages.

Someone must know the answer to that. I wish they'd make a post letting us know. Anyway, they are beautiful birds that do not go broody, have relatively low food consumption and lay a huge dark egg. Every hen I've had has layed an extra large to jumbo egg and around 200-220/yr. They are also remarkably consistent in appearance. I can't ask for much more than that.
