Hello!

Im new to all of this but My husband and I are raising chickens for the first time and though we ordered a pullet run (knowing there is always a small percentage you will get at least one Roo) Im wondering if one of our Americaunas (which I'm pretty sure is an EE) is a hen or a roo? either way we don't mind but we would just like to know so we can begin to train him to be a gentleman with us and his ladies lol

He/She has little to no comb like the rest but it is more red than the other 3 Americaunas/and 1 other EE we have, he/she I noticed today also has a little green tint in the tail feathers when standing in the sun. He/she hangs back and doesn't seem to be establishing a pecking order though and has always been more skittish. As far as color I'm not sure because there is one other chicken just like this one but the comb just isn't as red. They are now 12 weeks old.

you can see above a little of the green even standing in the shade...

Red "comb" though all of the Americaunas and EE's don't really have combs. the others are more peachy colored. Ill post a couple photos of the others below these.

The other EE (I think) not so red comb, and tail feathers aren't as pointy, this bird also hangs to the back with the one I suspect is a roo. They've been besties from day one, always together.

Kimber, one of the 3 Americanas.

Tadpole, an Americana. When we got her as a chick she had a green head lol hence the name Tadpole hahaha

Big Bertha, The fluffiest chick out of the Americanas. She goes back and forth with Kimber on pecking order lol

So all in all from the research Ive read on this forum, I think two of our Americanas are EE's and Im pretty sure they're pullets except for the one in the first three photos. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm happy to learn and know the difference. Like I said my husband and I are new to all of this lol

Thank you much!!

You've got all girls! I believe she's also an Easter Egger, she sure looks a lot like mine! Also, get ready for your EE to develop some pretty and fluffy feathers! Happy chicken raising!!!

The red comb says cockerel but the lack of any male feathering and the pattern being typically only on pullets says pullet. I'll say most likely pullet. There's a red headed one in the third picture that seems to have a very red comb too. I'd keep an eye on that one.

They are all EEs. Americana is a deliberate misspelling of the APA accepted breed name of Ameraucana. Hatcheries do it to confuse people and feed stores just put the names the hatcheries tell them.

I love Bertha's pattern, especially with the contrast of a black beard and muffs against the gold neck.
