I understand that in some societies that it is acceptable but I don't agree with it. I'm not sure which part makes me more angry

. The old man that married the child, the parents that agreed with the marriage, or the government that allows it to go on.

The girl did not want the marriage, and thankfully she was able to fight against it. But she still shouldn't have been married in the first place.

This was completely normal in all cultures at one point or another. Think about the child brides of European kings, married off to seal this or that alliance.

It's a sad situation, but at the same time, I can't feel anything other than amazement at the determination of that young girl. She has strength of will, that's for sure! Hopefully, this situation will get her to a place where she can use that inner strength to become an advocate for others.

It used to be very common for young girls to marry.

My MIL was married to my FIL at 14 years old. Had my husband when she was 19 and they are still married. Almost 30 years together.
