12th Annual 2021 BYC New Year's Day Hatch-Along!

No, they are outside. I add fans, extra shade tarps, and frozen water bottles in the hot months. So far no adult losses from heat but I've only had them since spring 2018. I did lose kits from overheating so I've learned I can't breed past the point where I'll still have kits in the nest box late May/early June. Once out of the nest box they were fine, they just couldn't get away from the heat stuck in the box with their siblings.

We just moved, so I'm hoping I can get a bunny barn built into the side of the hill to take advantage of earth regulated temperatures. Maybe install a window unit to help. I'd love to be able to breed year round.

The does that didn't take are a first timer and an experienced doe. The first timer might be a little overweight and wasn't receptive to the buck. The experienced doe always seems to have issues breeding, I'm trying for a daughter and then she will be retired. She was my first rabbit.
They are a larger breed as well which I’m sure doesn’t help in the heat. A coop into the hillside sounds cool for both of you.

Building a bunny barn in the hill sounds like a good solution to our heat!
