Why are there swirls on the eggs
You mean the pencil marks? People do that to keep track of how large the air cell is inside the egg. It tells them if the chick is developing on time and if humidity levels in the incubator are right. You can hold a small flashlight up to one end of an egg to see.

Alright well I am late to the game, and I guess it's not an entry since my hand is in the picture, but I'd like to share anyways. I had to assist this hatch after the egg suffered a crack from mama stepping on it, and it was shrink wrapped. We named her "Squash."
