This thread has all the information!Hey y'all, and @ronott1 probably not the best place to ask this, but while we're all waitingfor chicks, does sex-linking work in reverse? I have a barred male and black females and I'm getting dots on half their heads. Usually I have barred hens, so I'm used to those being male. I did not think there'd be any dots - and what do those dots mean if the male is the only barred bird?
Will you all look at this list and verify the information is correct?![]()
If your name is missing, please let us know. Is yes, no, or maybe for setting eggs correct? If not correct, please let us know. If you are setting eggs, please send a conversation to @OneMountainAcres and let her know the number of eggs that you set.
I will be able to update Thursday/Friday on the status of Silkie-Momma and how many she's got AND if any are even viable.... That polar vortex/power failure/frozen well house situation ended up having all the previous batch freezing. Will you all look at this list and verify the information is correct?![]()

Separate... the old hen I moved to her own brooding coop (within the main coop) a week before and gave her eggs but none were fertile so I ended up putting another lot under her for the Easter hatch. The young hen (first time allowing her to mother) is in the main coop with the rest of the flock - I have never let a hen hatch eggs in the main flock so I guess I'll see what happens. I prefer to separate so the eggs don't get mixed up with freshly laid ones... I take the fence down in the separate coop once the chicks have hatched so they are all together. I'm hoping they 2 hens and chicks will get along or I'll have to keep the fence up between them... Or if the young hen is not a good mother then I'll tuck the chicks under the old hen to adopt since they should all hatch around the same time. Are they on the same nest, or separate?
I have two who do this.
