My pullet eggs seemed to be about 50% fertile with a cockerel getting conjugal visits. Of the eggs I've incubated only a third have developed. I put in extras just in case, and I only want a few chicks anyway, just to see what colours come through, as it's heading into autumn in my neck of the woods.

for your second batch.

I just wanted to see if the incubator worked okay. All my eggs are developing fine. I’m glad I didn’t add more!!

I just set 8 silkie eggs around noon 3/20/21. They will be 6-7 days late but it sounds like that is still acceptable? If so I'd love to join!

I had a couple last hatch that I was sure were blood rings, but I left them in a few more days and sure enough there were live babies in there. So don't remove eggs unless you are sure - leaving them in a few more days until you are sure won't do any harm.

I also put pullet's egg , i put just few beacuse I already have zilion hens if I end up with 3 chiks i would be happy!!

I have a question for you all. Since a lot of you have hatched out lots and lots of chicks over the years maybe one of you will have done this cross. What should I expect from a Black Copper Marans Rooster x a Buff Orpington hen? I've tried using the color calculator charts and those things are confusing but I think maybe a black chicken with gold leakage? Of all the eggs I've set its this egg under my broody hen that is the most important to my mother. The orp Butter is my moms favorite hen and all she wants is a Butter baby. I think maybe there is a 50% chance for feathered legs, but again genetics are not my thing. If anyone has pictures of this cross as chicks or adults I'd love to see them to maybe get a idea of what to expect. I know there is a lot of pressure on this one poor egg to hatch lol. But it was the one egg I've managed to candle under her and the chick was dancing around. Now it just has to safely hatch and cross every finger it's a girl.
