My broody girl quit yesterday :/. She was in the coop when I fed in the morning & then all day after, about 6pm I went to find her nest & all the eggs were eaten, looked like a chicken did it too :/ yall I think she ate her eggs! There were 2 whole ones left i stole & candled, one had a peck mark on it. Neither of them had any development. I'm thinking maybe her eggs weren't fertile & she gave up? Anyone have a momma eat their own eggs?
So sorry to hear this!

I had a scrub jay and a mockingbird hanging around the coop sneaking into the nest boxes and poking the eggs. Blamed my chickens and got rid of some, oops! The egg breaking continued until I installed half-inch metal mesh over the chain link areas. Watch out for small birds :hmm

Nice report!
Hi @ronott1

I’m checking in as well, first batch in first ever incubator. Set 21 of 22 eggs (broke and tossed one), on 9 pm March 13.

Recall I collected the eggs very dirty with dried yolk (horrible rats) and expected to end up with stink bombs. But after BYC discussion, washed eggs in the hottest tap water. So ...

The egg I’m holding has a saddle cell so that’s out. Below it, just 2 green eggs from my proven breeders are dark. One of those could be a Naked Neck. I hope they’re not too old. So 13 infertile/clear out of 22 set 😔

However, the 2 brown eggs in the inner circle of the incubator are dark, so hopeful. The light brown egg is from blue wheaten EEs. The dark brown egg is FBCM over Barnevelder. :fl

Now the happy. Four white eggs in the inner circle are definitely kickin it and alive 😄 Sire is 3 year old EE x Partridge Penedesenca rooster. Dam is ancient White-faced Black Spanish.

:frow Oh. And I’m hoarding eggs to set after this hatchalong:gig

Fingers crossed for a great hatch on the eggs that are developing!
I like the novel you wrote on your eggs. You take as many notes as I do! :gig
