I’m checking in as well, first batch in first ever incubator. Set 21 of 22 eggs (broke and tossed one), on 9 pm March 13.

Recall I collected the eggs very dirty with dried yolk (horrible rats) and expected to end up with stink bombs. But after BYC discussion, washed eggs in the hottest tap water. So ...

View attachment 2584091The egg I’m holding has a saddle cell so that’s out. Below it, just 2 green eggs from my proven breeders are dark. One of those could be a Naked Neck. I hope they’re not too old. So 13 infertile/clear out of 22 set

However, the 2 brown eggs in the inner circle of the incubator are dark, so hopeful. The light brown egg is from blue wheaten EEs. The dark brown egg is FBCM over Barnevelder.

Now the happy. Four white eggs in the inner circle are definitely kickin it and alive Sire is 3 year old EE x Partridge Penedesenca rooster. Dam is ancient White-faced Black Spanish.

3 days in, our broody buff orpington has finally figured out its best to sit ON the eggs.

This is day 7 for most of my eggs, but I have been peeking at them almost every night ( ). Well, last night I finally saw an embryo!! I think I saw veins in a couple other eggs, and only one or two are lacking that sort of reddish glow they get when they start to develop, so I'm hopeful now that I have several developing.


Bad attempt at getting a picture of the for-sure baby, but you can almost sort of vaguely see it here. In person, it was more obvious, dancing around in there. Thank goodness for the candler recommendations during the last EHAL because this is the most I've ever been able to see in Marans eggs while incubating them!

What day are you now? Congratulation

Candled first on Day 7 to see if I could detect veining, but some of the eggs are too opaque and dark to tell (Marans). Usually I wait until Day 12 when solidity v. glowing is quite apparent, but on Day 10 -- which was yesterday -- they all checked in as good to go.

I’m sorry I haven’t replied. I put eggs in for the Easter hatch. I’m not sure how many. I can count tomorrow and let y’all know. Do I reply to this thread or pm? Sorry, I’m not more organized. I’ve been busier than I planned due to bottle feeding kids.
