LOL, Prince and his two ladies got to go out this morning. I've expanded the area that is hot wired so they have more room to find what they want.. Just after this video Mara the BCM passed through the fencing, Prince followed but hit the fence and got poofed.. He immediately went back through and into his pen.. Sure is dangerous out there!
I love those happy rooster chirping sounds. 🤩 What a beautiful little guy!!

Haha, kind of sounds like my Patriot. Everything is dangerous. He will call the ladies to take shelter at the sight of a songbird. 😂 He puffed up at a wild rabbit the other day. Dangerous creature, must protect ladies! (But a few minutes later, he chased it to mate with it. 🤪 😬 The rabbit's feelings weren't mutual. 🤷‍♀️ 🤦‍♀️)

The thing I find the most hilarious is when you take food or treats out and the boys are chirping and chuckling away at one piece, while the hens are running around scooping up everything in site, including the boy's prize. I keep telling them to eat it, not talk to it!

So... we had bad storms come through yesterday. I was concerned we would lose power, but we didn't. (Whew.) I checked on the chickens and locked them in a little early before the storms hit (the clouds made it dark so they went to roost). When I left, everything was fine, but when I went out this morning... Layla had apparently gotten so freaked out by the storm that she came down off the roost. It looked like she flew onto the nesting area and then flew the length of the hen house, straight into the wall, and killed herself. When I found her this morning, she was already stiff. I hatched her last July. Freak accident, but I don't know what else could have happened. Kinda heartbroken right now.

On the bright side, I candled my eggs this morning and I see life in 16 I think.
I'm sorry you lost your dear little Layla :hugs

You two ladies, ermmmm.. well folks confirmed my suspicions that early hatchers tend to be male.
My last batch was supposed to hatch July 15th, but I had two early hatchers. Patriot and Banshee decided to hatch on the 13th. Patriot came first, he is a roo. Banshee was right after him and she's a beautiful lady. Patriot just got out first, haha! And then I had several come out on the 14th too. I didn't know I should rotate the eggs in the incubator (mine is a Little Giant but I don't have the forced fan installed) so the eggs will develop at the same rate. Oops. I didn't do it this time either, so it might happen again. I'll be curious to see if the first hatched this time will be a roo...

Same! I'm not even sure sometimes if the boys get any treats sometimes. Several of my hens will snatch treats out of the boy's beaks. :lau I guess at least they got to taste it? 😂
