Rope going thru smoothed hole in wood should work fine....just keep an eye on it for wear. For the pop door I was originally looking for a nice way for the rope to protrude out of the front by the hen house door. But I've given up. I couldn't find the item shown in the 2nd picture to feed the rope through. I think it's called a "ferrule". Instead I've drilled a hole at an angle and sanded it smooth. Using 2 pulleys; one above the door, and one close to the front of the hen house at the same angle as the angled hole, my thin rope slides forwards and backwards without issue.
Having the rope pass through a 5 Kroner Danish coin was another idea. Scrapped that one too.
Hi @aart . Thanks for the advice again! They currently live in the garage in a watermelon box. I stopped using the heater a while back because the temperature is in line or above required for their age. My plan is to secure, and put them in the hen house first. Then work on securing the run before opening the pop door to let them out.Where are the chicks living now?
Any drastic change in temp might be something to consider.
They are old enough as long as coop run is secure from predators and chick escape.
Thanks @aart . What I need is a thermometer that registers maxes an mins while I work on the hen house this week. Would be useful to have in the hen house and coop going forward too.Guess it depends on your garage, mine is about 20-30 degrees cooler than my coop,
but make sure they can stay cool enough in the coop while you work on the run.
