We hatched this chick 13 weeks ago, and it is smaller than the other known roosters, comb was always a little bigger but just now started to turn pinker. It is much smaller than any of the other 13 week olds we have and more than half the size of the 16 week olds we have. It is full Buff Orpington from full size rooster and hen parents. Any ideas if this is a boy or a girl? A very friendly chicken so I thought it was a rooster as a chick on that alone. First buff Orpington so I'm wondering if they are just nice!

I'm very new to chickens, so I won't be much help with gender yet. I do know that Orpingtons are docile birds, and I know several people with them and they're all very friendly. Both the hens and roosters alike. It's beautiful either way!

Here are some better pictures. We will regardless! Our daughter has named it Arthur because she says it's a boy, but as all the other boys have matured this far at like 6 weeks, I'm just not convinced. I'm so confused on this one! It's so much smaller!

This one is inside for a bit because last week a fox came through during the day and had picked him/her up, but dropped it somewhere when I ran out yelling at it. So, it's a survivor too. Just spending some time with it has me confused on it's gender.

Oh my, thank goodness you got out there! How scary. I'm so glad it's okay.

Yeah we thought he was gone for sure. Didn't come back until the next day. So we were happy to see when he just showed up.
I believe it's a cockerel too. I have BO Pullet and her cmb isn't nearly that large and she's 16 weeks old. Maybe he'll remember his ordeal and warn the hens in the future.
