13year old Rough collie

To be honest I think cat food is very much not a good idea for older dogs.

I used to pour a quarter cup of chicken soup or broth on my old dog's food. That added some scent and did the trick.

I have two old mongrels, 16 and 15. The younger of the two will still eat dog food from his bowl, but my old girl is hand fed on cooked food. If your dog seems well otherwise than eating i would tempt her/him with what ever they fancy. Think of them as an old person, small quantities regularly is the best answer I hae found.

Wow! I can only hope my border collie/german shepard mix will live to be 13 years old. YOu are very lucky. My boy is about 7 years old and his muzzle has some serious gray in it.

I wouldnt continue to feed her cat food or at the minimum only but a teaspoon or two on top of her dog food. Cat food for dogs is bad in large quantities from what I have been told.

I hope her appetite picks back up soon. Although if she has been eating cat food all this time than maybe you know something I dont. I will be a basket case when blaze passes away and I would love to have him around for another 6 or 7 years.

Took her to the vet turns out she is 14 not 13, he says at her age feed her what she will eat. Since then her appitite has improved she is running round the garden like a loon, is not limping anymore and is much happier. In fact I caught her standing on her hind legs tall enough to look at the halfway point of the scratching post to check for cat biscuits and that is nearly 3ft up it (the scratching post is 6ft tall)

This morning my big wussy boy went into the litter box. Lucy sat next to it and as he walked out went woof. Got all three cats scatting round the house. She is enjoying life again.

After two months Lucy has decided to eat dog food again, but we do 2 meals a day not one with a light snack at supper this goes down better.

I am a bit...late on this but my mother-in-law has a 19 year old Rat Terrier (Feetie) that did the same think. They switiched her to a mix of indoor kitty food and wet senior dog food, and she eats like a 3 lb horse! She can't hold her weight up anymore, but gets around like a champ (knocking on wood as we speak). She also does a really strange thing, never saw it before. What ever dry food that is left in her bowl she packs inside her cheeks, like a hamster! She will walk around with big puffy cheeks and every now and then have a snack. NO JOKE. They have even taken her to the vet for it, as they thought it was a tumor at first. She started it a few years ago and still does it daily!
