Hi,

I have a 14 month old female emu that I hatched in June 2019, and lately for the past two weeks, I have noticed that she stands tall and looks angry whenever I try petting her. All of a sudden it started happening. The outside temperature has been around 90-100 for the past two weeks. Could it be due to the temperature why she is angry all of a sudden or are they going through any hormonal changes? I also noticed that she only gets mad when I feed her broccoli treats to the goats or if I pet her from behind without her seeing me first. I tried petting her from the front and she didn't get angry, or could it be a combination of multiple things? What could be the problem and what can I do to make her tame again?

Thank You!!

Are you in the Northern Hemisphere? If so, breeding season is nearly upon us and hormones are starting to flow. Your girl is just old enough that she might be interested in breeding this year. During this time they can get very territorial and possibly aggressive.

My 30 month old female has started drumming and strutting. So hormones are kicking in. Some breeders have reported already seeing the first matings of the year happening at their places.
