Ended 14th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along—National Poultry Day

This is the little pullet that made me fall in love with chickens.

I absolutely find a sense of peace around my chickens. From watching the babies hatch, then scurry around the brooder as they grow, and now into a new phase of laying us eggs to provide food for the family, pest control in the garden, and entertainment, to our first broody sitting on eggs. I enjoy every moment.

Also love teaching others about the health benefits of eggs from chickens raised outside of factories. Can’t wait for a bigger property to add ducks and turkeys to our lovely group!

A big thank you to the BYC members that make poultry keeping easier for so many people.

Poultry are important to me because, going to my coop is a way to get some Peace and a break from busy day to day life, they provide nutritious and delicious eggs for my family and they give me so much joy to watch as they go about their day! Happy poultry day everyone!

Poultry, in addition to contributing to self sufficiency, is rewarding in so many ways. Just being part of BYC is rewarding. I’m grateful for my flock and for BYC as well.

As a child, I watched mother hens lovingly interact with their chicks. I knew then, that I’d always have chickens (and other poultry) in my life. Here’s my Serama, named Seasons…. who is now a loving mother herself.

My love of poultry started when I hatched chickens and ducks in the third grade. It would take over 25 years to have my own flock. I am so grateful for what they give back to me each day. I love spending time with them and educating others!!
