I know that it can take a while for a chick to zip after it's pipped but my protocol is to usually go in and assist after 12ish hours. Since this egg has been pipped for at least 15 hrs. I decided to go in this morning and assist. All I did was peel away about a dime's worth of shell and then I wrapped it in a warm wet paper towel. I can hear chirping, but when I peeked in the tiny hole in the membrane, I couldn't see the beak and it feels like the beak is tapping somewhere else, I just don't know where. I didn't want to tear away any membrance because there was clots of blood around the edges of the chick-made tear. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Madie.

I say stop and wait until the 24 hour mark.
I'm not sure but I don't think wrapping it in a wet paper towel is a good idea.

Do you have calibrated instruments in your bator?
( Thermometer and humidity gauge)

So now it's been over 24 hrs. the chick repiped in another spot, and I had to help it out a little bit but didn't do anything drastic. I guess I'll update as the day goes on.

It's out all the way now?
Did it absorb all of the yolk?

Ok, I take back what I said before, we are now completely out of the shell, although some of the yolk is still yet to be absorbed... which I find a little odd, but I wouldn't be surprised if the other chick that hatched yesterday(haven't taken it out because I don't want to leave it alone in the brooder) assisted it a little bit. I now have it partitioned off from the other chick with a little cardboard divider, and have it wrapped in new wet paper towels... we'll see how this goes.
