I have a 16.5 week old girl who started laying on Wednesday. She was advertised as a "paint sussex" (some sort of hybrid), but I don't know how accurate that is. Does anyone have any guesses as to what breed she is?

Is the chick really the same as the laying pullet?I have a 16.5 week old girl who started laying on Wednesday. She was advertised as a "paint sussex" (some sort of hybrid), but I don't know how accurate that is. Does anyone have any guesses as to what breed she is?

Yes, I was surprised that she lost most of her black spots! She does still have a couple, but they're rather hidden, I'll see if I can get pictures. Is the chick really the same as the laying pullet?
The chick looks like it would be a paint, but your layer doesn't look like a paint from those pictures.
She's gorgeous. She just doesn't look paint to me? I'm not sure what color she is, but she's very diluted and appears to be barred?
A "paint sussex" isn't an actual breed, but it should be a sussex crossed with another bird (possibly a White Leghorn, for the dominant white) and should appear to be white, with usually black feathers leaking through (but can be blue, or red, etc)
If you look up "austra white" or "paint silkie" you can find what paint chickens usually look like.

She does have very subtle barring, mostly on her neck.
She is truly one of my sweetest chickens. She loves to follow me around when I'm doing chores and will sometimes just sit in my lapFascinating
Well, she just might have ended up in the wrong bin or something.
Very fun
She also looks like she could sneak attack an intruder...
