16 Days Old and Impacted Crop!?

If you are that nervous I'll warn you that you will freak out the first time you see one dust bathing or sunning itself. Looks like they are dying before your eyes.

Oh geez!!! I can't imagine that right now but thank you for the warning!!! I am learning so much with these chicks. Everything scares me but I think it will lessen with time and education. I saw a video my friend posted of her hen on her back and she looked dead! It was insane. My friend had to put her on her back cause she was bullying her other hen and I guess they go catatonic when you do that?? It was so strange. I am constantly fascinated by these creatures. :)

What you do is stick the hen's head under one of her wings, hold it there, then sling her around and around in a circle over your head like you were winding up to hurl a baseball. The hen becomes confused and disoriented and she will remain where you put her. Try it some time, and you too may become a chicken whisperer.

Hi, thank you for the information. I don't think there is a problem cause her crop is totally clear this morning. I also have them on medicated feed for coccidia and they were vaccinated. I change their bedding every day, give fresh water and food 2x a day. All of them are chirping and running around like normal.... !

For what it is worth, feeding medicated chick feed cancels out the effectiveness of the coccidiodosis vaccine. The reason for this is that the Vitamin B3 in the feed kills the weakened coccidiodosis organism in the vaccine before the vaccine can deliver immunity to the chick..

Thank you so much TheCuteOrpington!!! Pepper Potts is CLEAR!!! That crop was totally empty this morning! Never have I felt such relief! I just posted a longer reply but wanted you to know! THANK YOU!! Much love!!!

Yay! By the way you don't have to call me "thecuteorpington" you can call me Buffy or TCO.
I'm just as relieved as you are! :clap:woot Have an awesome day!

Hi there Buffy! Thank you so much for this response. Some of the other responses have been quite hurtful so I am starting to question whether its a good idea to post on here or not. I don't understand why some folks are lashing out regarding what I wrote. I was hoping this would be a safe place to get support and ask questions but it seems like it will lead to a lot of judgement and sadness for me. You seem like such a nice person so I am sticking it out a bit longer but doubtful that I will be a frequent poster on the forums. I thought about deleting all this but if it can help another anxious mother then that is worth it.
Thank you soooooo much for your response and kindness!!!! :love

Oh, I didnt know that and the hatchery didn't tell me that when I asked them what kind of feed to give them. So should I take them off the medicated feed? I can surely do that but I dont want to upset their digestive tracts by a change of food. Thank you!

Oh, that makes me feel so much better! I know I am super sensitive so trying to keep all that in perspective. I just wish people realized before they typed something judgmental or hurtful that there is another human being on the other end here. I am doing the best I can with these chicks and I am not going to second guess my instincts anymore.

I am hoping all the kind users you mentioned are frequent contributors here cause I really need these forums for support. I don't need them for harsh judgment!! I am very open to suggestions that are practical and want to keep learning.

Thanks again!!!! <3 <3
