16 new chickens in the Finger Lakes

Funny I was thinking the UFH looked a bit like a partridge chantecler, like mine, but I can't see her legs. Just a thought from a neighbor north of you (I live near Watertown!

) You may want to use 2x4's for roosts so they can keep their little toes warmer. Gets mighty cold up here! and

That's a lot of roosters.

How are your hens holding up.

I'd probably try to sell or rehome (or eat) some of the roos.

OK...I checked the unknown hen's legs...they are yellow with feathers on them. Does this still point to Easter Egger?

The roosters were raised together and seem to be getting along. If I am not having problems, it should be OK, right? I would ideally like more hens, but if they are all happy together, I will keep them. Three of the roosters are always snuggled together on the roost bar. The rest just keep to themselves. What do you think?

Buff Brahma? Im not sure about the leg color, but thats what it sounds (and looks) like to me.

I dont think it looks much like an EE at all.

I guess if the hens still have feathers on their backs and the roos don't fight, you should be OK.

Thanks for the input!

The coop is heated...it probably doesnt get below 50 in there...is that warm enough, or should I put up a 2 X 4 roost?

Welcome to BYC! I'm near letchworth state park! If you search under index for the thread that says "where am ? where are you?" you can join us anytime, we are all NY'ers on that thread! Your new chickens look wonderful! When it warms up you should get between 6-8 eggs a day if I counted hens correctly? You may have to get rid of a few roosters this spring, sorry to say when "love in in the air" and they are all jockeying for the ladies! I have about 34 hens and 4 roosters, one or two too many in ny opinion but hey great if they all get along good! There's a very cheap processor in Dansville but that may be a drive for you! Good luck with your new chickens and hope to see yo on the NY page soon!

If you're in the 50's it should be fine... BUT don't know if you guys are prone to freak storms and power outages like we are up here. I know for me no electric = no heat, so I try not to let my kids get too warm and as for too many roos I'm 4 and 4 right now. Had one banty hen left and she is now a house chicken in a large kennel. The poor girl had her back feathers bred right off, fortunately no injury... Trying to rehome my boys as they are all friendly and handl-able. (Is that even a word??) We should do a swap this spring and get fresh blood for our flocks! Great excuse to check out the vineyards while were down there

My chanty does not have feathered legs, but they are yellow. I'll have to bow to the more knowledgeable members on this one.
