Hi,

What I thought was a lovely looking Buff hen has started making strangled, cockerel-ish noises and I’m now confused. It’s 16 weeks old, what are the main factors I should be looking for at this stage? It’s the first time I’ve had Buffs!

Yes, he's male. The thin, shimmery feathers near the tail are a giveaway. Handsome chap.

Thank you, Though that’s making me doubt my other Buff now. What would you say to this one?

Both are indeed male.
Where did you buy them?
There isn't a chance of either being female because they have male specific feathering. It's sometimes difficult to see on birds like BO that are one colour. But they're certainly there.
