We've had several times that a fox has attacked our flock...maybe that could make her crow??? All hens...she and a hen that I've had for a long time (laying eggs, etc) were the only ones in the house and the crowing came 2x. Maybe a crowing hen???
i had a hen that would crow every morning! we thought for sure she was a rooster but we kept her for nearly a year and she def was a she. She didn't lay eggs for a long time either. Eventually we got rid of her because she was too loud and i have a small yard and their coop was right next to our neighbors bedroom window. Maybe your EE is gender confused like mine was lol
Very interesting! I don't see any pointed hackle or saddle feathers which would be present on a cockerel of this age. Without a rooster present, a pullet will occasionally take over that role in the flock. It happened with one of ours long ago, but her crow was always a bit strangled, and she exhibited some mating behaviors too. Can't remember if she ever started laying (
too long ago!). We always thought of her as a tomboy.
