The sling is a good idea. I’m not sure if they’re supposed to sleep in them, though.
@Eggcessive ?
OOPS! Obviously I am still learning. Aside from a chick not standing up (I used a tiny sling for a few minutes several times a day plus a little chick physical therapy - stretching legs and moving them - she recovered!) I don't have experience with an adult chicken and a sling. Since she is moving on her own, I think I will skip the sling unless her condition declines.
Thank you for your advice. It is very helpful.

Well, it's a broken leg. This morning when I checked her again, it was much more obvious. There is swelling of the leg and foot and it felt less stable. Not a bad break though. I added a few pics to show what I used to splint. I had an old finger splint. Cut the end off and smoothed it off and cupped it a little more. I will see how it hold up and might re-bandage this evening. Also shows fresh poop, normal looking to me.

Be sure to check the foot to make sure that the splint is not too tight to cut off circulation. Vet wrap has a habit of slipping. Good job splinting.

Update on Penny the broken legged pullet! She is doing much better. I changed the splint today and I can tell where the break is/was. It's beginning to calcify and I can tell she is not as uncomfortable. We have let her out with the other pullets and she hops on one leg for the most part but does try to use it a little. When she needs to move away more quickly she flies/flaps and glides. She was NOT happy in the cage. She is eating and drinking water much better since she has been out. The other girls have not picked on her and we are keeping a close eye out for any bullying. We have no other chickens beside the 10 16 week old pullets. Their combs and tiny waddles are starting to grow and get brighter so....hoping to have eggs in the next few weeks.
