We've had this little chicken for nearly 16 weeks now, she's a real fans favourite and has ways been one of the most handleable chicks we got! She's a little bit deformed in that her beak doesn't quite line up properly and when she eats you can see the cutest little Tonge 'licking her lips' as she does it, some of her toes are also a little bit curled too.

She always had a slightly funny walk and walked close to the ground in comparison to the others. She's recently lost use of her leg after slowly trying to walk on for a few days it's now comletly useless, Im thinking she could have been born this way Or a roo from her clutch tried it on with her and injured her?

I know not many chickens make it to the vets, but this one did.. Sadly they wernt much use, but they did x-ray her and rule out that she's not dislocated or broken it so it seems like nerve or ligament damage

She's now almost entirely immobile and eating less and seems a little depressed, (she's been separated for almost 2 weeks now) does anyone have any experiance or anecdotes dealing with or healing with these types of injury as a bit of positive inspiration?

Thanks!

Poor little sweetheart. So if it is a ligament, that is going to take quite a long time to heal vs a break. Sounds like you are doing your best to get her healed. Maybe a little outdoor time, monitored of course, so she can get some sun? Treats to keep her eating? I wish you luck!

I also have a silkie who doesn’t use her leg. She was fine at birth and around 2 months started walking very odd with lifting both of her feet high. Her buddy who was born on the same day was doing the same and then suddenly died, so I assumed Marek’s. The poor silkie girl went very sick after that and for 2 weeks I tube fed her.
Then it was a slow recovery to eating independently, then she was standing the following month and then she was wobbling around the month after.
8 months on she is still rarely using her leg, but can make it to water and to feed. I take her to dust baths, although she just sits there, and she sleeps in a laying box.

My other chickens sometimes peck her on the days she is upright, but not offensively.
l think it discourages her to really get better, so she downplays it :)
How is your silkie now @WirrelSimpson ?
