I have a 16 week old barred rock pullet (I have 3 other pullets this age (1 is a barred rock), came from the same breeder, all 3 are the same size & seem to be fine) that only wants to lay around. She eats/drinks but doesn't get excited when fresh food/water is brought or when I come w/ special treats. She has been acting like she is "drunk" & seems to be walking like a duck. I checked her for any signs of pain (nothing), checked for bugs (found 2 lice, which we treated), her comb is pale along w/ her wattles. I dusted the coop/nest boxes w/ DE & also dusted my flock as well on Monday evening. Tonight I brought her in & gave her some yogurt w/ oatmeal & some water w/ electrolytes. PLEASE help me figure out what else I can do to help her.

Hmm, don't really know what to say for this. The pre lay period is often a challenging on on maturing birds, so there is a possibility that something is going awry on the inside. Other than that, if she weighs the same as the others and you've ruled out parasites, I don't know what I'd do.

No problems with vent area, walking funny usually indicates something going on internal. No more signs of lice, infestation of mites/lice can cause pale combs/wattles,but so can just about everything else. Keep doing what you are, until more symptoms appear this is about it. Has it been very hot? Try giving her some vitamins.

Tonight I gave her another dose of yogurt w/ oatmeal (I don't cook it just mix in the yogurt) but made it thicker, she ate all of it. I checked her over again tonight & found smaller lice, these much be new b/c the ones we found earlier this week were bigger. I plan to treat her and the rest of the flock again in 7 days w/ the DE.

You can use a product called Poultry Dust that is pemethrin, I believe, but if you don't like that idea, you can use straight wood ash from a fireplace to dust her with. DE is kind of contraversial--some think it does a lot, some think it is only good at drying out the coop. Here is a link for pictures of lice and mites: http://ohioline.osu.edu/vme-fact/0018.html
