Chirping
I ordered 5 female jumbo pekins and 5 muscovys from a hatchery so they can be raised together. My question is this, I already have 6 3 month old muscovys. Will the 3 month old muscovys become attracted to my existing pekins or new baby pekins or will I have to just get day old ones from the hatchery? I read online that MALE muscovys need to be raised from birth with mallard derived species for them to breed female ducks. I've also read that as long as you keep Muscovy males with mallard derived hens before the muscovy males turn 6 months old they will breed to the duck hen. I'm wondering if I should cancel the 5 muscovys as it's $100 and I don't know if I'll need them as I have some older ones already. The only reason why I'm buying them online is because French White Muscovy strains are very hard to come by. The 6 3 month old ones I have now are also French White Muscovys. There's virtually no information on the internet explaining this and I've seen 99% everything online already.
My goal is to breed a male muscovy to female Pekin to get mule ducks, I need information to make an efficient breeding program.
Mule Vs Hinnie:
The 1st way to tell assuming they're full grown is the face, mule ducks will have a small line of red (caruncle) on the part of their bill that meets their face. Hinnies will never have the caruncles. Mule ducks have the mallard derived voice, hinnies have the voice muscovy voice. Mules can't fly, hinnies are EXTREMELY good fliers. Mules don't lay eggs, hinnies lay eggs.
Myths:
Only 33% of eggs laid are fertile if lead to manually breed instead of AI. This is false and proven to be, if left to nature around ≈+85% of the eggs laid are fertile, meaning babies will be born.
Mules lay eggs. This is %100 false, HINNIES LAY EGGS.
