I have five 16 week old chickens, Four pullets and One rooster. I have recently noticed that my rooster will grab the hens whether it be at the lower end of their neck or their back and pull them down to the ground and ripping out their feathers. My girls obviously hate this and I can hear them shreek when he does this which causes me to run out of the house like its on fire yelling at him while waving a broom.

Is it normal for him to be so rough with the girls? He really pulls at them hard!

Any ideas? Do I need to get rid of him? I really dont want him hurting my girls. They are all such sweet hearts!

Frankly, I won't keep a rooster like that. There are loads of good roos out there who need a good home.

Thank you. My father and I decieded to give him up to a good farmer. It is hard to enjoy your chickens when you have to keep an eye out for a terrible rooster.

I love him to death though so I am glad he is going to a good home.

We ended up getting rid of him because we could not get him to stop pulling out the hens feathers. We found a huge pile of fluffy feathers underneath the coop and it was the last straw. However, he now happily resides at a neighborhood farm where he has become the boss of a large flock of ladies. He seems happy where he is and has adjusted really well.

Just thought I would share!
