First time using power tools or building anything outside of school shop projects. Quite satisfied with the end result and especially glad I didn't stick with using a prefab coop for the housing unit.

To get started, I spent a Saturday with some buddies and we all learned as we went along. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be and I believe anyone can make their own coop. You'll save money and probably be more satisfied with the outcome.

Here are some details about the coop/run. There are three watering units: one small metal canister in the coop, one PVC chicken nipple system mounted to the run frame, and a large 5-gallon plastic waterer. I plan on making a PVC automatic feeder as well. There are only three egg boxes because I don't plan on getting more than 10 chickens (although I've become addicted to this hobby and my flock has already doubled in the first 2 months of starting).

A portion of the coop roof is clear as a makeshift sunlight. There is a hinted side vent that can swing open in hot weather and shut during cold months. For the roost, I used a natural tree branch I found in my backyard. Before the summer ends, I plan on installing a light in the coop and run.

Here are some extra pictures. Please comment any suggestions you may have to add or change.

Very nice coop indeed. I also use natural tree limbs inside my facilities. ITS JUST KOOL...

??? why do you need electric light in coop and run ??? For yourself not to stumble ??? or is it part of further plans to utilize electric gadgets ???
I do have electric water warmers during winter .. I also provide 12 hours of light during winter months. Don't my my girls going nutty,

Keep us updated on how your chickens like their housing. Also. are you aware of chicken math.??? It already infected you in the first 2 months. 2 more months and your flock will double again..

I wanted lights for extra "daylight" in winter months but timers confuse the heck out of me so I'll just turn it on/off manually lol

If you were able to build this great coop, You wont have much problems with timer. They are a no brainer if you just give them a chance to show themselves to you. LOL LOL. I have timers and its SET IT AND FORGET IT. If you still have questions , just ask ... myself, or thousands like me are able to guide you thru on timers.
