17 chicks from Tractor Supply - Growth/sexing thread

This is my set up now. I threw something together quickly because they were getting cold.

I couldn't find a bigger box so I just had to connect 2 boxes… it’ll have to do for now.

Good and water will be moved to one side once they learn where it is. I completely forgot to buy a feeder and watered from TSC so I’m using caps…

Thank you! I’m so eggcited! :wee
I don’t know for sure yet, but the plan was to keep 3 Leghorns, 2 of the banties, and 1 SLW. Our friend is taking 11. We took 6 for ourselves but they will also be death replacements in case any of his die.
Leghorns lay like crazy😁 I have 8...I've had almost a hundred eggs in the fridge before...eggnog and pickled eggs..

Welp. The cardboard wall ended up burning and smoking. I will try cutting it lower later. For now, I just moved the heat lamp to the side.

The chicks are fine.
I’m glad I stayed at the brooder for a while to make sure everything is okay.

All the chicks are actively eating, drinking, and running around except for these 2. :hmm

It’s the silkie and a SLW. They are alive but just laying around.

I just purchased a total of 17 chicks from TSC. 11 of them are going to a friend who wants us to grow them for him. 6 of them we are keeping.

What we got:
-7 White Leghorns (pullets)
-1 Black Australorp (pullet)
-1 Light Brahma (pullet)
-1 Isa Brown (pullet)
-3 Silver Laced Wyandottes (straight run)
-4 bantams (straight run); one silkie, 2 booted bantams, and one unknown (possibly an old english game; all white)

Feel free to join me in sexing and identifying these as they grow.
Cool!

Chicks are doing great! All alive and well!
I had some help from an amazing member on BYC with sexing the babies. 3 of the bantams are too old for this method of chick sexing, but the silkie was younger, so it worked….thinking the silkie is a cockerel, sadly.
2 of the SLW seem to be cockerels and the last one is a pullet.
All the other chicks we bought were labeled as pullets so I’m not worried about those.

On a brighter note, the chicks seem to be using the little “doorway” very well!
I’m beginning to love our setup more and more ☺️
