17 week old she or he? picture heavy

Did you ever decide if it was a hen or a rooster. My guess was a rooster. Let us know which came first, the crow or the egg.

The Crow or the egg. now thats funny LOL

I had to get my glasses cause at first I thought it said the co or the egg LOL.

I'm hoping Fiddle is a hen. I'm waiting for an egg now. A couple of you mentioned I should look for an egg soon. How soon is soon? From what I read I thought to expect one when they were 20 weeks. In about 2 more weeks. Do you think I could expect some sooner? I need to make sure their nesting boxes are ready

Ok so any guesses on how soon is soon? Should I expect an egg in a day or so or a couple of weeks? What is it I should be looking for in her behavior or physical signs she is ready to lay an egg? Is it because her comb and wattles are so red? What should I look for in my others?
I'm so anxious now...

Not to be a downer, but don't get your hopes up about the 20 week thing: one of my RIR pullets took 32 weeks, and my dominique pullets still aren't laying and they are 23 weeks and pink combs as opposed to red...

I'm not in a hurry I just want to be prepared. I started calling Fiddle "she" again today. We have just always assumed she was a roo because her comb and wattles developed so much faster than the others. I guess they are all unique and you just need to wait and see. I almost traded her in at 9 weeks for a pullet thinking she was a roo but my husband told me to wait. Glad I did. I'm looking forward to her first egg!

Well no egg yet

but the 3 girls now squat down whenever I stand over them or even reach for them. Fiddle's comb is now so big its flopped over like a little beret hat.
Several ppl on a previous BYC post told me that my 3 girls were most likely production reds. Is it common for these hens to have enormous combs and wattles and for the combs to fall over like that?
