Thanks for your replies. Yes, I agree about them being happy and content. I told my husband that if they were all that they would lay wonderful, good eggs. He said they will probably be the size of an ostrich egg.

Very nice, but your Mr. Speckles looks like a girl to me, LOL. Seventeen weeks old? You know that's a pullet, right? Or is he the one bending over, showing his tailfeathers? Pretty birds!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing...Mr. Speckles does look like a girl. Does he/she crow? I think at 17 weeks he should be crowing. I really think you have a lady there.
 
how old before they start to crow? I brough my chicks home on good friday, though I am not hearing much (really any) noise. Probably a good thing as I was suppose to get 9 girls, being I already had a rooster, but I think I have 4 boys and 6 girls.
