17th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Pics
I almost dropped one because it peeped at me!
I almost did that once! Once, one practically did a somersault while I had a light on it, and that made me jump too!

"I need to check my rooster's genes" is a perfectly good reason to fill the incubator again, don't you think? :lau

When they say BYC is enabling, they're not joking! Before I re-joined here late last year, my plans were to breed a few backyard-mix chickens, and get a few brown ducks.

Now I have two elaborate breeding projects, have the house run over by ducklings and chicks and ordering eggs left and right. You guys have rekindled some enthusiasm in me for breeding poultry again, and I'm very happy about that (not sure those around me feel the same)
Same! I thought I was only getting a few colored egg layers to add to my flock.

6 hatches and 40 some odd chicks later I still have this batch of 18 in the incubator and 3 broodies sitting on eggs (8-10 each).

And I'm still thinking about getting Silkie eggs . . . I was planning on it, but then 3 broodies happened . . .

All 14 went into lockdown tonight! I did indeed candle them and there were a couple that looked to have internally pipped already. I almost dropped one because it peeped at me! I wasn’t planning on setting up a brooder yet because these are all going to a friend this weekend. If they hatch a little early I may have to for a day or two. I am like a kid on Christmas right now. 🤗
I awoke to 3 pips this morning and a 4th has happened since. There are some really cute little peeps coming from at least one of them. I am having a hard time staying focused on work. I keep checking in on them looking for more pips.

That's why I set up cameras on mine . . .

I just changed out the damp rags and did a quick check, no pips or peeping, yet.

Mine sit about 4 feet from my office desk. So it is easy to roll over there and take a look.
One incubator is in arms reach, the other ended up on the kitchen counter because the cord is so short it's the only place I could plug it in. :idunno
