I am beyond excited that our first hen has finally after a long 18 week wait began doing its egg dance or "squatting", however my excitement turned to impatience, all my reading said its common to see your first egg possibly just within days. She has been squatting for a week an still no egg :( is this normal???:/

All chickens are individuals, but she should be laying soon! Make sure you make some comfortable looking nest boxes and add some fake-eggs or golf balls so they start laying there and not in some hidden place.

Best of luck with your flock!

Chickens will teach you patience..or not.
It could be tomorrow....or it could be another couple weeks...or so....

Onset of lay can be between 18-24 weeks for most breeds.
Some take longer.

This year my oldest pullets submitted to the rooster a good 3 weeks before I saw any eggs from them.

Thank you so much for the replies, it's good to know I'm just being impatient I will stop stalking the nesting box lol. I have them full of straw and a ping pong ball

It's hard to wait! ..especially with the very first pullets .

Ping Pong ball might be kind light, will probably get kicked out of the nest when they start investigating...unless you can fill it with sand or plaster.
Golf balls work better...or fake eggs from TSC.
