This little guy pipped last night (probably between 8-9 pm). I know it can takes 24 hours, and sometimes longer, to zip, but the placement of the pip seems awkward. The beak is moving, the chick is peeping, every so often it pokes its beak out to try to zip. The problem is that the chick's beak hits the floor of the incubator. Do I watch and wait? Or do I turn the egg? There are two other (internally) pipped eggs in the incubator and three that haven't yet pipped. I don't want to risk shrink-wrapping the others. Today is day 21? So they're right on time. Temp. is 99.5 and humidity is 65%.

Thanks for any advice from those more experienced than I!

Amy

Hi,
From what I have read lately, the humidity is to precious and most say to wait it out. I’m a newbie though so hopefully a seasoned hatcher responds soon for you❤️ Best of luck and post those pics when they come out!

Well, these little guys kept us busy in the last 15 hours or so! The one I was concerned about pipping on the bottom of the egg made it out at 2am, about 27 hours after it originally pipped. The others zipped out one right after another, done by 9am.

Photos below. (Mom's an ISA brown, dad's a gold laced wyandotte.) Does anyone know if F1 offspring will be able to be sexed by down color? I know it wouldn't work if both parents were ISAs, but what about an ISA hen with a purebred rooster?

Well, you must have done something right! Good job! They are super cute☺️

Short answer, no.

Longer answer. The ISA Brown is a red sex lnk. You cannot use a red sex link to make a red sex link. The mother is not barred. You cannot use a non-barred hen to make a black sex link.
Thank you so much for your response. I'm learning so much about chickens! We were casual keepers, but I think I'm hooked now!
