19/36 dead chicks- is this normal? :-( how do I ID which breeds died?

Well, I took a refund; minus shipping and minus $10 for the surviving chicks. I think they should have refunded it all but I don't have the energy to fight about it.

How/why would the gro gel poison them? We're supposed to mix it up for them to consume. They didn't get into the package of it as that was unopened- this was mixed up and put there by the hatchery.

I did tell the post office- and it said on the box to call for pick up too and they STILL took them to the house! :-(

We're moving in a few weeks, so I'm just going to wait and try the Post office at the new location. Its a bit more rural, so maybe they'll be more familiar with this.

If I get live chicks from a hatchery again, i'll ask if they ship on mondays and use heat packs.

Well I contacted them today about the replacement shipment that came in Monday in bad shape. I did at least get a few survivors this time. The girl I spoke with this time was very nice and just refunded me my whole purchase price including shipping. She wrote off the few lil survivors. It was very nice of her. Still sad they didn't make it.Of course the survivors are all the roosters i ordered. All the BLRW pullets died.

Wow, really sorry to hear that. The Gro-Gel comment was based on the green goo comment, but maybe it's just that your chicks somehow became part of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie....

Tremendously sorry to hear that your post office blew it big time. But as mentioned, "good enough for government work" is sometimes not good enough.
