Hey everyone,

Here for the count down I have 24 RIR pullets that are 19 weeks old tom. they arent showing any sign of laying, besides the 4 or 5 that their combs and waddles are getting bigger and red. I have one hen in particular out the bunch that has gotten really aggressive toward me. when I try to go into the coop she comes at me and grabs hold of my leg with her beak and claws. Could aggresion be a sign of laying? I have a rooster that attacks me on a regular basis maybe she learning it from him LOL!!!!!!!!!

Generally my pullets have gotten more friendly when they started laying. They're all needy now! Weird that she just started attacking. I'd rehome or cull her...more will follow if it's allowed. OR, you could snag her up each time she does it and hold her upside down for a few minutes to show her who's boss. Might take a couple times if she's been "getting away with it" but I bet she'll change her tune after getting another view of the world from a submissive point of view

Yeah sometimes you can correct the behavior if you hold the bird until she stops squirming and pet her and talk to her. If she was broody that would explain her behavior somewhat, but she hasn't layed yet...

Thanks I guess I should do something to correct it. Im pretty tolerant of it cause she not that big she cant hurt me any kind of way I usually just give her a good leg fling if that makes any sence. not in any kind of way that would hurt her though and she doesnt come bac for more. all the rest of my birds execpt for the one rooster are very gentle and courious. I can set them on my lap and they will sit there all day if I would let them.

Our hens have been getting more friendly lately. They've also started laying this last month. But they had a big boost in friendliness when Nelson started hand feeding them fruit from "their" orchard. They are CRAZY for prunes!

No chicken eggs yet. My oldest pullets are 24 weeks old now. I have checked their usual places to see if they might be laying outside but I don't see anything. Is there a way to tell if any are laying?

My ducks are giving me 3-4 eggs a day right now. They first started laying Sept2. I have 11 female ducks and all are 20 and 23 weeks old. I should be getting more eggs than that I would think. I keep them in the coop until 10 am. I am sure some are laying on the pond but there is nothing I can do about that.

mine are 30 weeks. and not a single egg. i kept them locked up yesterday all day, and nothing. I have been wasting my time searching the yard the past few weeks. This morning I did find that someone rearranged the eggs from one nest to another. I hope it's real soon.....
