I have 5 buff orps, and I got my first egg yesterday!!! 18 wks, 3 days. I'm soooo excited!!

I can't wait to see what today will bring!
COngratulations! My Buff started laying last week and she gave us an egg every other day for the first three eggs. Monday, she laid 2 days in a row!

My golden comet which is about 22 weeks laid her first egg yesterday. I have two golden laced wyandottes are the same age; which have not laid yet.

My BO was the first to lay but she laid every day for several weeks. Now she will lay 3 days and rest one day. My Golden Comet lays every day and first thing in the morning. She lays medium-dark copper colored eggs. All my girls' eggs have nice hard shells. But when my BR started laying she laid soft eggs on and off for a few days until she got the hang of things and then it started happening again after a predator attack. So I think stress does it too. It has taken a couple months but they are all back to their routine, except the BR that was injured that I had to nurse back to health. Still waiting for her to lay again. She has started gaining a little weight and squats for me again so I am hopeful she will start again soon. She still seems a little depressed sometimes though. I swear she looked sad tonight when her mean sister pecked her and wouldn't let her go into the coop. She is on the outs with flock because she spent one week in the house full time.

I think my other hen just started laying! I found another egg the day two days after my first, but it was much smaller than the first one. Then the day after that, another big one! The eggs have had much thicker shells than the first one. I put out some oyster shell the day I got that first egg (which was very thin shelled) and I think it made an immediate difference.

Well at 26 weeks, 3 days We have eggs.

First day there were two large eggs and one small. Second day 3 small, third day 2 small and one large. They took a break today with 0 eggs. Now I have 9 nest boxes and they will only lay in one? Why?
I dont know if it was just time or if it was that I started placing a bowl of oister shell for them. Oh well, its a start.
