First day there were two large eggs and one small. Second day 3 small, third day 2 small and one large. They took a break today with 0 eggs. Now I have 9 nest boxes and they will only lay in one? Why?
I dont know if it was just time or if it was that I started placing a bowl of oister shell for them. Oh well, its a start.
Because they are too chicken to try a box that nobody else has used!

They call it a "favorite."

The oyster shell definitely will help keep their calcium levels up high enough to put on good shells.

i have 1 rhode island red named chichi who has been laying eggs for a year and 2 amereicaunas (annie and ellie) who will hopefully lay their eggs in september.

Yay! I got my first egg today out of five gals! Two are a bit older. Unfortunately there was a hole pecked in it and I hope that isn't going to be a routine occurrence but maybe it was just a one time thing. We shall see. Perhaps it was an accident...who knows.

But....YAY!

Hi guys. We're getting pullet eggs now too. We don't feed oyster shell much, since we save the eggshells to feed back to the layers. Its very easy to digest, and give them back exactly what they've lost.

I do keep a bit out, but they really prefer egg shells. LOL

Have a nice day, folks.

I got my first egg Tuesday from my 19 week old barred rock, who is most mature of my four hens. Just wait, the birds start when they are ready.

My Wife and I are new to raising Chickens. We got 10 hens and 1 Rooster 20 weeks old. We got our 1st egg 3 days ago. A very small egg in the hen box. We were both very excited and we been checking our boxes 2 or 3 times a day. We haven't seen any more eggs, is this a common thing??? Please Help!
