19 and a half weeks old and still no eggs :( egg countdown anyone??

There are bones (forgive me, I don't know what they are called) that basically end right at the vent on either side. If you feel the width between the bones from the bottom (underneath the hen's rear end) and can fit 3 fingers between the bones, said hen should be laying soon. If it's narrower (1 finger, 2 fingers), hen isn't ready yet!

Wow, I am learning A LOT. My cochin girls are 15 weeks, so I guess I have a ways to go yet, but I love hearing their big clucky voices and seeing their waddles change.

I have Blue Cochins. Two Roo's and 3 Hens. The hens make the Best mothers! But, I found they were closer to 6 months old before they began laying. Two of my females became broody after laying for only 6 weeks. One of them has now been broody 3 times since Dec (2011)

We've set record high's here in the Memphis area. Shoot, all over the country has set records this year. We've had to summer hibernate. I think that's part of the hold up on more layers. I've added about 1/2 a cup of sugar to their water to perk them up a bit. Mine free range and forage all day, we have lot's of tree's they keep cool under. My concern is that they will start laying in the brush or under the deck! My RIR, Molly, has been checking out the hen house the past 3 days, so I hope more are to come. Out of 14 hens, only Tink is laying. I'm thankful for her, and get excited every time she lays one. It's so much fun, the anticipation!

We are finally getting EGGS! They started slow and we are getting five to six a day. I go check first thing after work everyday! I have around 20 that still haven't started.​

still no eggs. not even a squat! they are all fat with red combs and wattles but still no eggs..i think they are holding out on purpose

I am at 19 1/2 weeks with mine and still no eggs. Something is painful about buying chicken feed and then buying eggs from the grocery store.
