CONGRATS!!!!!We are finally getting EGGS! They started slow and we are getting five to six a day. I go check first thing after work everyday! I have around 20 that still haven't started.
YAY!!!!! WONDERFUL!!!!! PICTURES?We got 2 eggs today!!! Not sure just who laid it, but I don't care. This one was in the nest box too. I have a suspicion that one of them is laying near the hen house, but I can't find her dugout yet. I can't wait till the kids get home and I can tell them!
Just don't do it on the same day and buy the eggs before the feed. Might hurt just a LITTLE bit less.Something is painful about buying chicken feed and then buying eggs from the grocery store.![]()
I used to let mine out late in the evening around the same time you did. I started getting up and letting them out of a morning and have noticed I am getting more eggs. My hens seem to like the privacy and will go back in the coop once all of the other chickens have started their daily foraging to lay. I also took an old blanket and but it up and covered the front of the nest boxes with a slit in it so that they would have it dark in the nest box.Well my 8 are 20 weeks. Last Saturday I got a small olive colored egg presumably from one of the E.E. Sunday another olive colored egg. Both in the coop. Monday I found a larger egg laying in the yard but it had no shell. Pretty much a membrane w/ a yoke. Nothing else since. I'm a little baffled? When I get home and turn them out usually around 5 pm a couple of the girls will stray off on there own into the woods. I'm thinking they me be laying out there???Any thoughts?![]()
Holy Smokes 63!! thats wild!!! Congrats on the first two you got in the nest box! Treat yourself to breakfast, I ours 10 mins after it hatched for dinner last saturday. How many pullets do you have? I've been wondering and trying to figure in my head how many birds and how long were they tricking you?Counted all the eggs in the clutch as I placed them in a water bucket, final count is 63! I did the water test tonight and carefully swished them around, no floaters! Chickies are going to have 60 scrambled eggs this weekend! On a happier exciting note, I found 2 new perfect brown eggs in the temporary litter box (I marked 3 from the pile and put them in the box for encouragement) and no more outside tonight when i scoured the run for any other hiding spots. I didn't even have to lock them in, but will keep everyone in a little later this weekend anyways. I better get more than 2 eggs a day after finding a pile of 63!
