19 and a half weeks old and still no eggs :( egg countdown anyone??

Well the first eggs i got they were all scatered around the chicken run and as soon as i made the nesting boxes they started laying in there with no problem except for one RIR that gets out of the coop and leys her eggs in a little corner of the house and then she waits for me to put her back in the coop.

Those first eggs seem bewildering to the girls. They seem to fall out of them where ever they happen to be at the time ("What was THAT?"). After a couple of times, mine went to the nest box ... some were shown, others following their sisters, I assume. I've even had a few who laid their first egg in the nest box! So, you might want to pick up her and her egg, place her in the nest box, and show her the egg ... with lots of praise and a treat for being such a good girl. I may be crazy, but it's worked for me.
Yeah the first eggs suprised all my girls, dropping from where they were roosting at night, but Daisy, my first to lay caught on really quick to the nests and layed there everyday thereafter. Same with all the others to follow, even Silver whom we brought home from a friends house where she was used to a totally different nest situation. Maybe part of the reason is that we also don't have many places in the yard that are better than the nests, the yard is pretty open.

My lovely Black mix Cochin pullet of 24 1/2 weeks laid her first egg this weekend while I was out of state. She has 2 sister brood mates that have not had their comb/wattles turn red yet, but hopefully they won't be very far behind.

Always wanted a Cochin, I saw a roo at the fair and he was SO COOL and fluffy!!!! He looked like a giant marshmallow!

Just wanted to announce I got a double yolker this morning :D Same girl. She didn't lay yesterday, so I thought she might have a big one today. She has opted to lay in the doghouse instead of the nesting boxes

but, I think I'm okay with that. We don't have outside dogs anymore so it was just sitting out there, plus it's big and sheltered so maybe multiple girls can use it at the same time instead of fighting over who goes first haha

Hmmm, I kind of like the whole dog house idea. I should get one and figure out how to coax the ladies to lay there

StarLover, so sorry that your girl has a case of the buggies. Ugh!

Congrats to everyone getting their first eggs!

Our RIR and BSL are still teasing me. And come to find out, my GLW, who's at a friend's house, may have started laying and is hiding her eggs. Come on, now. Is it me?

So I had my first egg earlier in the day...I just went outside to put the girls up for the night and guess what?

I found ANOTHER egg in the same spot!

I put them beside a store bought egg for size comparison. The 2nd egg was bigger than the 1st egg, but how odd that it was in the exact same spot?
