I've never heard of the cayenne pepper thing? What's it supposed to do?

I had some chickens eat my ornamental peppers one time. They sure squawked when they pooped, but it sure made the eggs taste good!

Another old wise tale. Better off increaseing protien to induce laying. That is sure fire as most layer feed is too low in protien. For the larger duel purpose breeds 18% or better is recomened for them not 16% protien like many layer feeds are now days. Mine started laying at 20 weeks BUT I have some that will be laying later which is normal. Many of the heritage breeds will lay later than many smaller hatchery breeds. They will also lay longer thru the years than be done in 2 years. So do not worry if your chickens take awhile to get with the program for they will out lay in the long run those that lay early and alot.
